A VILLA THAT FOUND US
The story of Villa Suerte began around 35 years ago with a family holiday in Lanzarote that was anything but relaxing at first. Our accommodation was noisy and overcrowded, and we were almost convinced that the island was not the right destination for us.
During the final week of our holiday, we discovered Puerto Calero by chance. Back then, the marina was still small, with just a few restaurants and a wonderful sense of tranquillity. On our way back, we spontaneously turned into a side street and came across a house that was for sale: the villa that is now Villa Suerte.
When I went inside, I noticed a burst water pipe in the garden.
I reported the damage to the marina office, which led to a series of encounters that eventually put us in touch with an Austrian estate agent. The house was far too expensive at the time, so we flew home.
Some time later, we received a phone call: due to an urgent situation, the price had been reduced. When I entered the house again, I suddenly had the feeling that it was already mine. I felt responsible for it and knew that I wanted to take care of it. And so, we eventually decided to buy it.
WITH LOVE AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL
We carried out an extensive renovation, replacing the windows, doors, floors, and the electrical and plumbing systems. Later, we added the conservatory and the swimming pool. We imported many materials and pieces of furniture from Austria, as quality and creating a home according to our own vision were especially important to us.
Over the years, the house became a place where we feel at home and which we now love sharing with our guests.
Villa Fortuna becomes Villa Suerte
We originally named our home Villa Fortuna. Fortuna, the goddess of luck, felt like the perfect name because I had a feeling that this house would bring us good fortune. After all, it was a whole series of coincidences that had led us to discover it in the first place.
As there are many properties with the same name, we later decided on Villa Suerte. Suerte means “luck” in Spanish and therefore preserves the original meaning. Villa Suerte is our former Villa Fortuna – with a new name, but the same story.
We hope that our guests will find peace, privacy and the feeling of truly having arrived here.
